Join us as we sit down with veena artist (the veena is an acoustic and chordophone instrument from India), musician, composer, performer, and educator from Mississauga, Radhika Baskar. She shares with us more information about the veena instrument, its importance to Carnatic music, how long it took for her to learn the veena, the roots she has in Mississauga, and what collaborations she has planned for the future.

About Radhika Baskar:

Radhika Baskar is a veena artist (the veena is an acoustic and a chordophone instrument from India), musician, composer, performer, and educator from Mississauga. Radhika is an accomplished performer of traditional Carnatic music with improvisation skills. She wants her listeners to feel uplifted, euphoric, relaxed, healed, peaceful, meditative, and enchanted through her music. Radhika is the recipient of the 2020 RBC Newcome Arts Award from the Toronto Arts Foundation.

She has collaborated with Canadian musicians from other genres and she finds it very interesting to blend her music into various musical styles. With her musical skills, collaborations, and performances, she is looking forward to spreading music and joy across GTA and Canada. She also performs duets along with her daughter Adhithi on the piano. The duo has released singles on Spotify and you can check them out on our Martys HUB Sauga Hits Playlist here.
