“The City of Mississauga is looking for artists for an upcoming project at a community centre that will be undergoing major renovations.

Professional artists and artist-led teams are being invited to submit expressions of interest to create permanent public artwork that will be installed at the Carmen Corbasson Community Centre.

Artists with experience creating inclusive and accessible public art are being strongly encouraged by the city to apply.

The city is looking to commission art that “helps to create an inter-generational gathering place and animate the area” with a “people-oriented space” connecting the community centre with the Mississauga Seniors Centre, located in the same plaza.

Up to four artists will be shortlisted from this call to develop a proposal. As part of the two-stage selection process, artists who are selected to submit proposals in Stage 2 will receive a proposal fee of $1,000. The total budget for the project is $100,000.

Submission will be accepted until Sunday, Sept. 11 at 11:59 p.m.

The city aims to install and unveil the artwork in fall 2024.

For detailed information and to apply, visit the city’s website and download the submission package online.

The Carmen Corbasson Community Centre is expected to close this fall for two years for renovations.”
