“Since 1998, Taste Canada has given out awards to some of the best cookbook authors and food writers in Canada

Mississauga-based cookbook author, doula, and pre- and postnatal nutrition expert Lindsay Taylor has won gold for her debut cookbook, “The Food Doula Cookbook: A Guide To A Healthy Pregnancy And A Nourished New Mom” at the 2022 Taste Canada Awards.

Since 1998, Taste Canada has given out awards to some of the best cookbook authors and food writers in Canada. The jury, consisting of volunteers from Canada’s culinary profession, are appointed by an independent selection committee, according to the awards website. Gold and silver award winners were announced at the Taste Canada Awards Gala on Nov. 7.

Taylor’s book won in the Best Health or Special Diet Cookbook category, which is given to the best cookbook that features content and recipes related to specific health and nutritional needs or lifestyle choices. According to the awards website, it must include a minimum of 50 per cent recipes and a minimum of 20 per cent informational content that supports the subject of the book and the recipes.

Published by an Oakville-based, Asian-owned, women-run, independent publishing firm, Plumleaf Press, the book was a success when it was initially released in 2021, which brought on a second print-run that hit shelves in August of 2022, according to a news release.

Outside of her successful life as an author, Taylor is a practicing doula and pre- and postnatal nutrition expert, running several professional nutrition workshops throughout the year.

Taylor has been featured in the following:

• “the Joyous Health Podcast”

• “the Ultimate Baby Podcast”

• “the Wellness Witch Podcast” (formerly “Healthy Hormones for Women”)

• “Forty Weeks to Forever” by Snuggle Bugz

• “GQ” magazine’s Gift Guide for Dads 2021.
