Work will be completed and installed in J.C. Saddington Park starting in September

“The City of Mississauga’s Public Art Program, in partnership with the Parks, Forestry, and Environment section, is inviting artists or artist teams to submit proposals for a temporary public art project that explores our relationship with garbage.

Artists are asked to propose artwork that uses locally collected trash as a major part of its creation and explores the connection among the environment, waste reduction, and the circular economy, the city said in a release.

The public art project will combine artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation with environmental conservation, the release reads.

The project aims to challenge the perception of waste culture by providing a unique platform for community members and visitors to learn more about the circular economy and eliminate waste by reducing, reusing, and recycling.

The commissioned artists will be responsible for all fabrication and installation, the city’s statement reads.

The artwork will be completed and installed in J.C. Saddington Park at 53 Lake St. for at least one year starting September 2023.

Submissions for the project will be accepted until Sunday, April 30, by 11:59 p.m.

The total budget for this project is $15,000 plus taxes.
