We chat about his experience at Juilliard, how he created a GoFund me campaign to attend his first two years at the prestigious school, how his opportunities in the Mississauga arts community established his practice, his broadway debut in The Music Man, and how he has recently been appointed as principal trumpet of the Nashville Symphony. About William
William Leathers is a 22 year old musician and Juilliard graduate student from Mississauga. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Fendi Vanguard Award and a Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award. William has performed across Canada, the U.S., the U.K., and the Caribbean. He is the fourth Canadian classical trumpeter to attend The Juilliard School and has studied with Christopher Martin, Raymond Mase, Chris Cigolea, James Thompson, Guy Few, and Howard Leathers.
In February 2022, William was appointed as principal trumpet of the Nashville Symphony after a successful blind audition and was also recently invited to be a member of the 2022 National Brass Ensemble. In March 2022, he made his Broadway debut in The Music Man on Broadway, starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. William is a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship at the Juilliard School.
