Unearth Uncover Exhibition

September 22, 2022 - November 6, 2022

Free

An exhibition inspired by plaques that commemorate significant people, places and events in Black Canadian history.

This exhibit was formed when teachers from the Peel District School Board wanted to bring attention to Black histories that aren’t taught in school. This led to the development of a social justice program for students, in partnership with PAMA’s Unearth Uncover Historical Plaque Project to further the initiative through exhibitions.

Students in the Black Student Association and Social Justice classes at Cawthra Park Secondary School were asked to create a visual art response to the project. They were encouraged to research histories, then consider and envision a future inspired by the themes and ideas in the stories. These students created a #BlackedOutHistory campaign, with stories featuring the Black community’s resilience and advocacy.

Visit the exhibition at Bradley Museums Anchorage Gallery to review the student art submissions.
