FREE Portfolio Review for Photo-Based Artists – AGM

Complementing the Art Gallery of Mississauga’s exhibition Jorian Charlton: Between Us, the Art Gallery of Mississauga is offering a free portfolio review day for photo-based artists.

This opportunity allows participants to meet with three industry professionals, show their work and receive valuable feedback and personal guidance on their careers.

If you would like feedback on work-in-progress or a completed body of work, advice on how to present work, or are looking to gain insight about exhibition opportunities, the AGM FREE Portfolio Review is an ideal opportunity for you.

HOW IT WORKS:

• Pre-register for Free through Eventbrite

• Limited Availability (only 15-time slots)

• Show your printed photographs, a bound portfolio or images on a laptop or tablet.

• Meet with all three reviewers during your pre-registered time slot.

• Each review will be one-on-one/20 minute each. Total 1 hour.

 

REVIEWERS:

Simon Cole (he/him) is a self-taught curator and art dealer. In 2011, he founded Cooper Cole, a contemporary art gallery in Toronto that has gained international recognition for its unique and diverse programming. Among other artists, Cooper Cole represents Mississauga-based photographer Jorian Charlton, whose work is featured in the solo exhibition Between Us at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Cole is also a co-founder of X in Residence, a not-for-profit artist residency based in Toronto.

Fausta Facciponte (she/her) is a photo-based artist and professor of photography in the joint Art and Art History Program at University of Toronto Mississauga and Sheridan College. She received her BA from the University of Toronto and her MFA from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has shown her work nationally and internationally and received grants from The Canada Council of the Arts and Ontario Arts Council. Her most recent body of work Little Tragedies and New Beginnings was exhibited at the Art Gallery of Burlington. Facciponte has organized over 70 exhibits and supported over 140 artists to showcase their work in the Peel Region, through an ongoing series of exhibitions that she founded and self-directed. She is represented by the Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto.

Lillian O’Brien Davis (she/her) is a curator and writer based in Toronto, ON. She holds a MVS in Curatorial Studies and a BA Hons. in the History of Art and English Literature from the University of Toronto. Davis is currently the Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs at Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography and curator of Nuit Blanche Etobicoke 2023. She has curated independent projects at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Susan Hobbs Gallery (Toronto), School of Art Gallery at the University of Manitoba and the MacKenzie Art Gallery (Regina). Her writing has appeared in BlackFlash Magazine, Canadian Art, C Magazine, Insight magazine and RACAR Art History journal. She is also currently one of two inaugural visiting curators at the University of Manitoba School of Art Gallery.

Jorian Charlton: Between Us is a feature exhibition of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and is on view at the AGM from April 25 to June 25, 2023.
